In many respects, instructors are the driving force of LON-CAPA. Instructors do the weaving of content, instructors run the courses, and instructors more often than not are also content creators. Being faculty members ourselves, we want to empower the faculty.
Adoption of our model system LON-CAPA has mostly been driven by faculty demand. We have seen steady growth in both schools and higher education. Our goal, though, is exponential rather than linear growth.
A system like LON-CAPA has different classes of users, each with their unique needs and expectations:
- in high schools
- in higher education
- in courses
- for credit
- massive online
- independent learners
- System Administrators
These are more stakeholders than most any other kind of information technology platform. Users are frequently not the decision makers, those are school or university administrators. This constellation can easily lead to a disconnect between an institution’s teaching mission and business considerations. Based on experience in this realm, we will work with both users and decision makers.
