Students are the reason LON-CAPA exists.
We want LON-CAPA to be a place where students interact with content and with each other. With much of the students’ lives happening online already through social networking, we want to tap into this paradigm.
Students will be in various venues, which LON-CAPA supports:
- independent online learners – they browse the openly accessible content
- enrolled in massively online courses
- enrolled in online for-credit courses
- enrolled in blended for-credit courses
The LON-CAPA model system has been used by 965,000 student-course enrollments in all of the above settings.
A system like LON-CAPA has different classes of users, each with their unique needs and expectations:
- in high schools
- in higher education
- in courses
- for credit
- massive online
- independent learners
- System Administrators
These are more stakeholders than most any other kind of information technology platform. Users are frequently not the decision makers, those are school or university administrators. This constellation can easily lead to a disconnect between an institution’s teaching mission and business considerations. Based on experience in this realm, we will work with both users and decision makers.
